Halloween and Jeff's Birthday

This title is aptly suited since Halloween and Jeff's birthday go hand in hand. A curse he's dealt with all 31 years of his life! Well, maybe a curse is too strongly worded, but it does make planning difficult sometimes. Since Halloween is on a Sunday this year, we here in Utah celebrated on Saturday. Only problem is...that's Jeff's birthday. So, we ended up celebrating Jeff's birthday on Friday night instead. Here are a few of the Halloween/Birthday festivities.
Jeff's family had a Halloween party last weekend and I found this fun recipe for "eyeballs" to make. It was just donut holes with frosting on them. Chance had fun helping me.

This has been my demise this last week. Right here, these cupcakes! Ok, not the cupcakes alone, but baking...in general. I've kind of gone a little crazy this month. Chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin cookies, zucchini muffins, pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin cheesecake. You name it, I've been baking it. For the most part, I've been able to limit myself to one treat here and there, and give the rest away, but I recognize it's getting harder and I vow not to bake again until Thanksgiving!
Jeff's mom is so fun. She really gets into Halloween. Here she is with Sophie at the Halloween Party.
I, on the other hand do not get into Halloween very much. The extent of my "dressing up" was borrowing a witch hat and cape from Gigi and wearing it for all of 15 minutes before suffocating in it and ripping it off...
Chance was supposed to be "Batman" for Halloween, but he declined the cape, ears and belt. Which pretty much made him a little boy wearing a batman shirt. Ha ha. Maybe he inherits my feelings towards costumes?

I had to throw this in because Soph is looking so big lately. Where has my baby gone? She is starting to say more and more words although it's still mostly unintelligible jabber. Although she says it with such purpose and intent, I'm sure she knows EXACTLY what she is saying!
Jeff and I both had Friday off of work so Jeff ended up taking Chance to an early movie while Sophie napped. Which gave me time to make this cake for Jeff. In case you don't know, he loves the Jazz. I mean...LOVES. So, he really appreciated this cake.
After eating at Tucanos, we headed up to the Gateway. Jeff got his very first "Peppermint Hot Chocolate" of the season from Starbucks. One of his favs.
And...one of his presents. Jazz shorts. Apparently, they're "official" or some crazy thing like that which basically makes them overpriced in my eyes, but what's a girl gonna do? It was his birthday. So, I gulped hard as I watched him hand over $65 for these shorts. NUTSO.
The happy couple out on the town, kid-free. Funny thing is that this was the 5th try for this shot! Jeff isn't known for his photographing skills...sorry babe, but it's true. We finally got a good one though...

Ok, on to Halloween. It was a torrential downpour for about an hour prior to Trick or Treating time, but it cleared up just enough to go out for 45 minutes. Sophie was a butterfly, though she only kept the mask part on for about 5 seconds.
Once again, Chance changed his mind and decided to be Darth Vader last minute.
Blowing out the candle!
Sophie playing on Jeff's laptop.
You can see from this angle how long her hair is. I mean seriously, what 17 month old has hair to her shoulder blades? Mine...apparently. Up until now, I hadn't even contemplated cutting it, but I'm wondering now if she should get a trim? Any thoughts on the matter?
