Sophie's 1st Birthday
No, No...not a train cake for Sophie's birthday. Chance was lucky enough to get a 2nd birthday cake this year since Grandma Joanne (aka his "far away Grandma" that flies in an airplane to see him) came to visit a few weeks after his birthday. She made this fun train cake to celebrate with our side of the family.
Chance and his Grandma with the finished product.
Chance was having a fit one night and fell asleep on the floor in front of the door. Which is kind of odd because he NEVER does that. Even when he does cry and throw a fit, he usually gets into bed on his own and eventually goes to sleep. On a positive side note - since my last post, Chance's behavior has improved drastically. He's doing so much better about not hitting or throwing fits in general. I think it was mostly a phase and that our negative reaction - like freaking out- when he would get aggressive only escalated the issue and it got worse. Our attempts at being more calm have definitely helped...I think.
Aunt Gigi and Uncle Sid came over one night - thanks Sid for the endless times you help drag our dryer up and down the stairs. Anyway, here is Chancey with his cousins Lexie and Addie "watching a show" in his room.
A few weeks ago we went down to St. George for a friend's wedding. We managed to sneak in some swimming with the kids. Chance LOVED it. Can't wait for the weather to get warm enough here to take them.
It's kind of hard to tell, but Sophie does have 5 teeth now. You can see the bottom ones a little in this picture. So cute. I love when they get teeth.
Sophie's birthday was May 27th which means she graduated to a big girl, forward facing car seat. She looks so little in it, but she really likes it.
Sadly, Sophie had Roseola for about 4 days - including her birthday. Fever and crankiness...not fun. Chance was super sick on his 1st birthday too. Huh. Anyway, I still had to make her a cake although she wasn't really interested.
This was the extent of her interest in her cake. She wouldn't even touch it. We shoved it on her tray, snapped the picture and took her to bed. Look at her sad little face. Awww.
Sooooo....I had to make a 2nd birthday cake for Sophie this year as well to celebrate with Jeff's family on Sunday.
And she was....still NOT interested. Here she is throwing a fit during her birthday song. Granted, she was still at the trail end of her sickness and hadn't had her 2nd nap of the day, but man this girl is getting bossy! She has quite the temper when she wants to.
Chance got to open a few belated birthday presents too! He was such a good boy that day. Great day with all of his cousins.
Ahhh...the spinning toothbrush. Pure genius. Why did I wait so long to buy Chance one? Now I can't get him to stop brushing his teeth. Like 4x/day. And we finally got Sophie her own as well. So cute together. Notice the little red mark under Chancey's lip? Yeah...guess who banged his face on the kitchen table, had his tooth go straight through his skin, get taken to the doctor and had glue put on his face? Chance. Actually, all things considered he really hasn't had very many injuries. It looks like no big deal, but the dr said it was still good to bring him in since it went straight through his skin. Now let's just hope it doesn't get infected...
Not much else is going on. I've been off of work now for a week and it's always a weird feeling. Of course I love the break, but I feel like my life is ruled by nap time and it's weird being home all day. You're always busy with kids and yet never seem productive. It's an odd dichotomy. I know I'll get used to it and love it, but it just takes time to switch gears.

Hey! You are an awesome cake decorator, what lucky kids! I love how kids explain the grandma's and grandpa's by what they have or what they do. so cute! And that little Sophie is a doll, she always has been! But I have figured out that darling little kids are usually the naughtiest. Heavenly Father made them extra cute so that we can still love them even if they are being naughty. Or it might just be the girl thing. My daughter is my hardest and she is 8 years old! I guess I'm glad for 3 little boys!
Since when did you become a professional cake decorator my dear. That picture of Sophie on her birthday is sad.
You have the cutest kids ever! That sounds awful about Chance's tooth. I don't know how I am going to handle things like that when I'm a mom.
And your cakes are amazing. I'm so impressed!
Your kids are soo cute and you're such a fabulous mom, especially to make two different cakes for one birthday! I'm glad things are better with Chance, bummer about his lip though. And poor little Sophie did look sad on her birthday. I still can't get over how much hair she has! Cute, cute kids!

Spinning toothbrush, eh? Perhaps we should give that a try. James is not a fan of toothbrushing time.
Man you guys have some cute kids.

SO CUTE! Sophie and Chance are both so photogenic! :) I love all the cakes- you and your momma are talented! :) I also love the picture of Chance passed out on the floor, by the door- that's me when I get tired- I am out! :)
Stupid roseola. I swear Sophie looks so much older than Lucy with all her hair - they are only 6 days apart. Sophie has the cutest little girl haircut ever - love it. Hope you guys are doing well.

When are y'all going to post some new news of the Nemelkas? We would like to know what is going on in your world as we may never see you in person again. I was in Utah last weekend for a day or so...I thought about calling then thought about how it was conference weekend and you guys were probably busy with family etc. and that since I did not have a car it might be more of a pain to see me than it was worth to you. Oh well. Again, post some photos and details! Take care and we miss you!
