Sophie's First Week
Well, things have gone pretty well this week so far. Chance has actually transitioned much better than I expected. He hasn't tried to hurt her and anything. He's actually been really sweet and says that she is "my baby" all the time.
As far as the nursing goes. I had to give up on it by Sunday night. I was just miserable. I had already done all the things suggested by you lovely experienced nursers and it hadn't been working. So...in the meantime I am pumping and bottle feeding it to her. It's SUCH a pain and very time consuming, but I figure that as long as I can keep it up I might as well let her get as much breast milk as she can. I know 0nce I go back to work in two months I'll have to use formula.
Other than the whole nursing challenge, Sophie is a dream baby so far. She sleeps pretty much 22 out of 24 hours a day which is more than I can say for myself. I'm averaging 3 hours a night and it's been really tough, but what can you do? She rarely cries -- except a little in her car seat and has been great fun to snuggle and love on.
I had my first poopy blowout today. Then my mom had to change all my clothes and get me a new blanket to use. (She also had to change me into this cute new dress too.)
I sleep all the time...here I am sleeping on Daddy.

My brother loves to "help" me by giving me kisses, getting my blanket and putting my binky in my mouth.
The one time my mom put a bow in my hair...she should do it more often because I sure look cute with it in my crazy hair.

22 hours a day! That is unbelievable. If life is fair, the rest of our kids will be dream kids who are perfectly behaved from conception until they turn 18, to make up for the sleep deprivation from James's first several months of life when we pretty much didn't sleep.
I exaggerate, but it was pretty rough. How come you only get 3 hours a day when she is sleeping so much?
I can't think of a pair that deserves a good baby more than you all.
Well Gary, I will spare you the details involved in pumping, but it's pretty time consuming. She still wakes up to eat every 3-4 hours so by the time I bottle feed her, pump, get back to bed, she's ready to get up again 1 1/2-2 hours later.
Oh and don't worry...I'm sure Sophie's rough time is coming up. This sleepiness can't last forever. She might end up being a nightmare of a teenager as payback.
Amanda, I feel your pain with the pumping--well, not literally, but I did pump for a year with Jack and it was hard. If you feel like you can get through the first couple of months with your sanity, it does get much easier after that. I was blessed with a good milk supply so I only had to pump 5 or 6 times a day and not at all in the middle of the night. I bet you could do it even after you go back to work if your milk supply is good. Also, it helps a ton to buy several sets of shields and bottles so you don't have to wash so often. The thing to remember is that breastmilk is not the most important thing for Sophie--having a happy and sane mommy is! Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
She is sooo cute! I can't wait to meet her. Her hair is precious and so dark. I hope everything is going well with pumping.
She looks like she has that same long rangy body style that Chance has. By the way, I've been having a problem with printing black (color is OK) on my printer. When I try to print out these photos, Sophie's hair turns white!
Amanda!! She is A-DOR-A-BLE!! Seriously!! She is so cute! I want to come and see her!
OH MY CUTENESS! I could just gobble her up! Seriously... I might steal her.
He, He, you have to love it when your little tinies blow poop all the way up thier backs to their heads. It must take an admirable amount of force to do this. Sophie is beautiful...and I think she looks oh so much like her big bro. Love you guys and take care
You need to bring me my baby.
Black hair WOW!!!! She is soooo cute. I love that hair. I'm with ya on the pumping. I swear it takes so long getting set up and all the washing after. I did it about 4 mo. If that. I kept thinking of the money I'd save. I'm not sure if it was worth it. Give her hugs & kisses from us.
How cute is Sophie & Chance!! Can't wait to come out next month!
